The vulnerable group development program is the largest socio safety net program of the Government of Bangladesh that exclusively targets ultra-poor households.
This program jointly operated by “The Ministry of Women & Children Affairs (MWCA) and NGOs in Bangladesh.
The main goal of this program is; the ultra-poor participants receive monthly food ration for the household and a development support services (inclusive of life skills and income generating skills training, savings and access to credit) for a sustainable development of their livelihood.
The NGOs are playing role is to improve the socio-economic status of VGD women and make best effort in materializing it.
The main objectives are played by NGOs are to build the income-earning capacities of VGD women and to socially empower them through training on awareness raising, provision of training on variety of Income Generating Activities (IGAs), provision of credit and other support services during and beyond the food assistance period. In this process after completion two year cycle VGD women will have graduate to access into the NGOs core development program micro-credit.
In this respect ASKS has successfully completed 1st cycle (Jan ’13 - Dec ’14) at Pabna Sadar and Bera Upazela in the Pabna District. The total numbers of VGD women were 3480. The 2nd cycle (Jan’ 15 – Dec ’16) is going on same upazela and number of VDG cardholder also same.
Moreover, Honorable State Minister “Ms. Meher Afroze Chumki” M.P responsible over “The ministry of Women & Child affairs” of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Government has been visited VGD training season at Anannyo Samaj Kallyan Sangostha (ASKS) Head Office, Pabna on November 07, 2015.
